Bruno Munari and "travel sculptures"

Munari in 1951 while working at the cycle of negative-positive makes this sculpture whose design is so simple to be disarming.
A square sheet of metal is cut and folded to create a volume-sculpture which filled the gaps and create forms of negative-positive. The novelty is the play of solids and voids, in the simplicity of the design that uses a square module and also the fact that the cuts are introduced.
Anyone with a piece of colored cardboard and a pair of scissors can make a sculpture so simple and yet so complex, whose formal beauty, after more than half a century, it is not to be archived.

The first travel sculptures are born in the early fifties as folding sculptures and in fact are given away or sent as greeting cards, and thereafter , since 1958, are called travel sculptures.
The sculpture was created with travel all the characteristics of the modern era: is low-cost, is practical, is also wanting to single-use is to serve the modern nomad who lives more lives houses or sometimes just the rooms but several latidudini is democratic by design, is light, when is exposed does not need large spaces and can also express a cultural dimension to private.

The sculpture comes folded in an envelope. You open the envelope and removing the sculpture. Place the sculpture on a horizontal surface (the inclined planes slip) before turning off the light and see how this illuminates different parts protruding or falling, the parties full and empty. Turn them over on the other hand, changes its appearance, your thoughts will become practical to aesthetic slowly (speed depends on you), you'll wonder no more "is the Cusa chel rob ki" and fall asleep happy. Good night.
[Bruno Munari, course code, Einaudi]

Munari in '90 makes a lot of sculptures based on the shapes of folded cardboard sculpture travel. Some of these sculptures in Corten steel (which changes with time and weather) were exhibited on the seafront of Naples and Cesenatico. Others have found a resting place, as in Portofino, Riva del Garda, Canterbury.

Is Sparkling Mineral Water Bad For You

Good Design

Peas

pills of different food diameter, packed in cartons very elegant clamshell shape, color, material, semi-transparency and ease of opening.
Both the product box and the sticker that all derive from a single source of production. Not so different processes on different materials to assemble then in a subsequent finishing phase, but a very accurate job scheduling, certainly the result of teamwork (teamwork).
The object is monochrome but with considerable variation in tone, it just gives it a sophisticated, but also meets the tastes of consumers away from a culture today. The color is a green, a green well-known under the popular name of "pea green" color pretty well calculated from the start of production and not changed to this day. This color has distinct cultural influences in fashion colors and furnishings around the years 20-30.
The shape of the pills are quite normal although there has been concern to vary in diameter, but what stands out for its originality, and yet the simplicity of its conception, is the case: its function is shaped two equal and symmetrical, as we plan today for reasons of economy of production, concave enough to contain the pills which have the imprint of both form and the number and disposition. The two elements are combined, a perfect seal, an adhesive that performs a dual function: as a spring-hinge side and less as a simple sticker from the longer side. Taking the case "knife", as they say, between the thumb and forefinger and applying light pressure with your fingertips, the box opens and displays the shooting pills all lined up in good order of magnitude. The pills could fall to the ground but a little of the glue that holds so you can remove when you want just by touching with a finger.
One of the characteristics of these productions is the change in the series. Problem much discussed in the various world conferences of Designers: design an object of great production must take into account the tastes of the public and propose possible changes to the model so as to increase sales more pleasing number of buyers? In the case of the production of peas there is perhaps an excessive varieties while maintaining strict form and color, can be found in container trade by dozens of pills, ten, nine, eight ... containers up to a pea. Too much change and, ultimately also a waste. And who buys only a pea and, again, it requires in its container? Yet for thousands of years, this subject continues to be produced in this way, the consumer does not pay attention to these details. However, it is likely that this much variation is the result of an error in market research, certain facts before making such a huge production and still in use today for negligence bureaucracy.
Again, no concession of an outdated style taste of the beautiful classical or modern according to the latest artistic trends, not complacency sculptural, no easy anthropomorphism, but a game determined by size of individual parts. The object is inserted in an honorable tradition of technological production is also calculated with the utmost rigor, but not without warmth and social and, one could perhaps say, with a slight sense of humor.

Thoughts "under rocks"

"I want to know why" is the title of the only Italian exhibition dedicated entirely to the work of the master Sotsass in Trieste in Hall of Enchantment of the former fish market.
" I think shows a small but very exciting and I'd like them to come out crying, that is, with emotion. I wish [this show] was only loneliness and intensity. " himself commented on the imminent opening of the exhibition. And on the same wavelength Sottsass said "The principle behind furniture and monumental absurd is the emotion before the function."
This approach to property of the master, that was all: architect, planner, photographer, designer, painter. A man who wondered why of things. Perhaps that is the key to follow to understand the work of the Beyond the beauty, skill, innovativeness, awards made (including the Golden Compass, the highest recognition the Association Industrial Design). " Not that I know what they are, the types of stone have a sense of the sacred, sacred forever. I would like to know why " .
no coincidence that the artist n ato in Innsbruck, Austria, in 1917, but an Italian family, not without coquetry explained that his name had to be read with the accent on the last syllable: Sottsass, in dialect 'in the stones. " The matter then. Whatever it was. Sassi included. The material that creates the Elea 9003 computer in 1959, the calculator Logos 27 in 1963, the typewriter Valentina in 1968 were the years of its partnership with Adriano Olivetti. In fact, the industrial design is her true passion though Sottssass born architect. "The legend says that newborn my father has put a pencil in his hand because I was an only child and he absolutely wanted me to become an architect." He had graduated in architecture at the Politecnico di Torino in 1939.
of some of his colleagues had censured the opera, with its biting irony and plain: "I noticed that all the skyscrapers have never marked the orientation, the north, south, east and west. It means that these architects do not care where the sun is, where is the night, which is the day, it seems that the interests inhabit these places, but only drawing. "

How To Get Wrinkles Out Of Projection Screens

Clockwork Orange - The "Korova Milk Bar

the Korova Milk Bar is the bar of film and novel Clockwork Orange Anthony Burgess of where Alex (the protagonist) and his droogs (friends) used to spend the evening before some wild night. Korova The term means in Russian "cow."
The bar serves "more milk", milk that is supplemented with drugs. At first the protagonist of the book provides an extensive list of drugs that a regular visitor to the Korova may need to add to his milk are mentioned in the Vellocet ( LSD), the synthemesc ( mescaline) and drencom ( adrenochrome ), another of the ways mentioned to drink milk is "with knives" (which term probably refers to amphetamines ).
In the film, the bar has several statues of naked women serving milk from their udders. The choice use of tables in the shape of a woman and statues of naked women is not accidental but is the concept of Stanley Kubrick on ' eroticism.
Indeed, as the movie (and book) set in the future, he saw the erotic element as a projection of what would happen in the coming years: that the advent of erotic art as folk art.
E 'was dedicated to the famous local cult Clockwork Orange namesake bar in the center of the city of Ferrara (via white cross, 51). The same is also served the famous "milk over " but instead of adding drugs, can be extended with any drink spirits. The restaurant is managed by the brothers of the famous singer Vasco Brondi ( The lights of the power plant).

directly inspired by the novel and film there is a bar in New York City 's East Village named "Korova Milk Bar" that reflects the style and the design of the film. Inside this bar, there are many designer items including chairs designed and made by Italian designer Fabio Novembre.
